Milford Mavericks Varsity Loses Lead Early in Defeat
Milford Mavericks Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 13-6 loss to South Lyon East on Wednesday. South Lyon East scored on a single by Molly Nieto, a double by Lauren Sciborski, a single by Julia Vollmer, and a double by Lucy Cronin in the second inning.
Koryn Pennebaker drove in four runners in the loss. Pennebaker drove in runs on a home run in the sixth and a home run in the seventh.
South Lyon East opened up scoring in the second inning, when Nieto singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Milford Mavericks Varsity put up three runs in the seventh inning. Milford Mavericks Varsity scored its runs on an RBI home run by Pennebaker.
Hannah Warthman was the winning pitcher for South Lyon East. She allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out one and walking zero. Melanie Cosens threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Cosens recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for South Lyon East.
Jenna Carlisle took the loss for Milford Mavericks Varsity. She went two innings, allowing five runs on four hits and walking zero.
Milford Mavericks Varsity socked three home runs on the day. Pennebaker had a long ball in the sixth and seventh innings. Allison Smith went for the long ball in the sixth inning. South Lyon East tallied two home runs on the day. Nieto went deep in the third inning. Vollmer had a homer in the sixth inning.
Milford Mavericks Varsity tallied 12 hits. Smith and Pennebaker all managed multiple hits for Milford Mavericks Varsity. Smith led Milford Mavericks Varsity with three hits in four at bats. Milford Mavericks Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Paige Grass had the most chances in the field with seven.
South Lyon East scattered 11 hits in the game. Vollmer, Nieto, and Sciborski each managed multiple hits for South Lyon East. Vollmer went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead South Lyon East in hits.
