The Mavs battled valiantly before falling to D1 perennial power Howell Wednesday night at Hartland.
Howell took an early two goal lead on goals from Stefan Frantti and Graham Hassan for a 2-0 lead after one.
Hassan struck again for Howell to give the Highlanders a 3-0 lead early in the second before Milford’s Sam Hewitt tickled the twine with an assist from Mitchell Balaka to bring The Mavs within two after two.
Howell extended their lead to 4-1 with a power play goal at the start of the third period, Dominic D’Angelo from Russell Daavetilla and Frantti. The Mavs continued to battle, outshooting Howell 12-11 in the third, including three breakaways that Highlander netminder Ethan Ryan turned aside to preserve the lead.
Ryan finished with 25 saves while Milford’s Hunter Bartholomew kept The Mavs within striking distance with 36 saves, including at least a couple of the “how’d he do that” variety.
Milford hosts Alliance Saturday afternoon 2:30 at Hartland in a Senior Day game honoring our Seniors and their Parents in the last home game of the year for The Mavs.
Our student section has been awesome all year and we’re hoping y’all will come out and represent and thank your Senior hockey classmates and their Parents for their dedication to our High School and Community and to please give our Team a chance to thank you guys for your support all season long.
It’ll be a great way to get ready for the Winter Dance Saturday night, because you know there’ll be some boogieying and singing in the stands by the Mav faithful and some exciting on ice play by your classmates Saturday afternoon against Alliance.
As always, Thank you! for your support. And Mavs Hoops, keep on rockin’!
