Your Hockey Mavs continued their winning ways with a 3-1 win over the always tough Walled Lake Western Warriors Friday night at Hartland in a rematch of the Warriors’ season opening night victory over Milford in mid November.
Jacob Briggs had two assists for the Mavs, while Ben Kozar, Sam Hewitt and Tyler Conklin each scored, and Maverick Brent Anderson had an assist along with 5 key blocked shots, an exceptional 75% face off win percentage, and nearly 7 minutes of successful penalty kill time to lead the Mavs to their sixth win in the last seven games.
Hunter Bartholomew made 29 saves for the win in his best game as a Maverick and defensemen Mitchell Balaka, Andrew Thiele, Jacob Quinn, Connor Meadows and transformed forward Keir Gillis helped Bartholomew enact the force field to keep Western’s high scoring forward Michael Barta, who ended up dinging a couple posts in one shift in the second period, at bay. Barta’s younger brother Mike was able to penetrate the intense and aggressive Milford D to pull Walled Lake to within one early in the third, but Conklin’s short side goal a couple of minutes later proved to be the difference.
Freshmen Kaz Bowring also had an assist and was robbed by Warrior goalie Sean Lickfold late in the third period to keep Western within reach, but all for naught. Lickfold finished with 26 saves.
“Great win for our guys. 6-1 in our last seven games. We definitely have work to do, but we sure are proud of the way our boys have been representing Milford after our rough start,” said Coach Gagnon.
The Mavs return to action Jan 10 against Walled Lake Northern 8PM at Hartland to kick off 2018 and their quest for historical significance. C’mon out and be a positive part of our goals.
And on that note, Milford Hockey wish you and yours a Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! and a Merry New Year!
