Mavericks News · Milford Boys Basketball Finishes Regular Season 16-4 and a pair of Road Wins

The Milford Boys Basketball team clinched the best regular season record in the 2000’s era on Thursday with their win over Fenton tying the 2012 team who had a 16-4 regular season. The boys will open up District play against Walled Lake Northern Monday at 6:00 p.m.

MILFORD 68, FENTON 64: Senior forward Kyle Soderberg scored a game-high 22 points as the Mavericks (16-4) posted their best regular season win total since 2012 with a non-conference victory March 1 over the host Tigers (8-12).

Senior guard Aiden Warzecha added 19 points, while junior center Gunnar Gustafson contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds as Milford, which led 34-21 at halftime, survived a barrage of nine 3-pointers by Fenton during the second half.

“We found a way to weather it,” said Milford coach David Gilbert, whose team made 17-of-23 free throws. “Even though we didn’t win our conference (Lakes Valley), it’s still a pretty cool accomplishment

David Pietryga led Fenton with 21 points. The Tigers made 7-of-11 free throws.

MILFORD 57, SOUTH LYON EAST 45: Junior center Gunnar Gustafson poured in a career-high 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Mavericks (15-4, 13-3) to the Lakes Valley Conference victory Feb. 27 over the host Cougars (4-16, 1-15).

Zack Guietts-Stafford led East with 16 points, while Nick Brandon added 10. The Cougars were 2-of-6 from the foul line.
